Women's Health & Sexual Health
The women's health services at Levin Family Health include cervical smear tests, breast cancer screening, and pregnancy and LARC support. (Unfortunately at this time the LARC Contract is not available at LFH, but we are working on this to source funding under this contract).
Long-acting Reversible Contraception (LARC): this includes Intra-Uterine Contraception, Subdermal Progestogen Implant, Progestogen Injection - these methods will be directed by our Senior Clinicians.
Cervical smear tests are used to detect abnormal cells in the cervix that could potentially develop into cancer. These tests are recommended every three years for women aged 20-69.
Breast cancer screening is important to catch the disease early and increase the chances of a full recovery.
Breast Screen Aotearoa offers free mammograms every two years for women aged 45-69 who do not have any symptoms of breast cancer, are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and are eligible for public health services in New Zealand.
Pregnancy support includes advice and care at all stages of pregnancy, including choosing a lead maternity carer (LMC) to provide care throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period.
LMC options include independent midwives, hospital-based midwives, and obstetricians. Levin Family Health also offers support for individuals who did not plan to have a baby, including options and referrals such as adoption, foster care, and abortion, as well as contraception choices
